Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated state-of-the-art indoor cricket academies in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, among other northeastern states. The cricket associations of these states expressed gratitude towards PM Modi and BCCI for these projects, highlighting the benefits they will bring to players, especially during the monsoon season.
The indoor cricket academies were also inaugurated virtually in Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland. Manipur Cricket Association Secretary, Lairenjam Geetranjan Singh, described the inauguration as a “historic moment” for the state’s cricket, thanking ICC Chairman Jay Shah for his support during his tenure as BCCI Secretary.
Singh believes that this project will revolutionize cricket in the northeastern states, providing world-class facilities including three indoor pitches, a gym, administrative office, and a heated swimming pool. He mentioned that the BCCI will cover the maintenance and operational expenses of the academy for the next two years.
Moreover, the indoor academy is expected to greatly benefit Manipur players, especially during the rainy season, allowing coaching camps and training activities to continue throughout the year. This move will reduce the costs associated with sending players outside the state for training purposes.
Arunachal Cricket Association President, Nabam Vivek, referred to the inauguration as a “landmark day” for the state, emphasizing the importance of the academy, particularly during the prolonged monsoon season in the northeast. He also expressed the need for cricket stadiums in the state to host domestic tournaments like Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Senior player Techi Doria expressed his joy at the inauguration of the indoor academy, thanking PM Modi, BCCI, and ARCA. He highlighted the challenges faced by players during the monsoon season in the state and expressed optimism that the academy will inspire players to train harder and perform their best without any hindrances.
