Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry. These projects cover urban mobility, rural connectivity, industrial expansion, education, healthcare, and sustainable development, aiming to promote balanced growth across regions.
During the event, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing both urban and rural infrastructure. He specifically mentioned the construction of rural roads to support farmers and small businesses, as well as efforts to alleviate traffic congestion in Puducherry town.
Among the key announcements was a Rs 140-crore flyover project to improve traffic flow and connectivity. Additionally, urban development initiatives like the introduction of e-buses under the PM e-Bus Seva Initiative and the launch of the Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart City Mission were initiated.
In the education and healthcare sectors, PM Modi inaugurated projects such as the Composite Engineering Block at NIT Karaikal and the modernization of the Regional Cancer Centre at JIPMER. Furthermore, he dedicated the 750-acre Karasur-Sedarapet Industrial Estate, which will house various facilities including a Pharma Park, Textile Park, and IT Park.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for water supply projects, rural roads, mangrove restoration initiatives, and other development schemes. The extension of the SASCI scheme to Puducherry is expected to significantly enhance infrastructure development in the Union Territory.
