Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to talk about the overall progress of the national capital, enhancing infrastructure, and meeting the people’s expectations. CM Gupta visited PM Modi before presenting the Delhi Budget 2025-26 in the Assembly. She also oversees the government’s Finance Department.
During the meeting, they addressed issues like pollution control, proposals benefiting women, and upcoming infrastructure projects in the city. Chief Minister Gupta expressed gratitude on social media for PM Modi’s guidance and leadership, emphasizing their commitment to Delhi’s advancement.
In a significant move to improve traffic flow and air quality, the Delhi government approved the payment of Rs 3,700 crore for land acquisition related to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. This decision aims to reduce congestion from heavy vehicles and lower pollution levels in the city by diverting non-destined traffic, especially trucks, away from Delhi.
Chief Minister Gupta criticized the previous administration for delays in the project, attributing them to a lack of seriousness and political disputes with the Centre. She mentioned that the Cabinet has agreed to clear the outstanding amount in phases, with Rs 500 crore to be released in the fiscal year 2025-26 and the rest in instalments in the following years.
