Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme, highlighting its role as a vital form of social security for small-scale farmers nationwide. He criticized the Congress party for spreading false information about the initiative during its launch, alleging that recipients would have to repay the funds post-elections. Despite these claims, the scheme has become a crucial lifeline for marginal farmers in the country.
PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing direct financial aid for farmers, announcing the recent disbursement of PM-Kisan funds to millions of beneficiaries. He noted the transformation in financial inclusion, with many farmers now receiving assistance directly through digital and banking channels, even if they lacked bank accounts or mobile phones before 2014.
The Prime Minister disclosed that an amount exceeding Rs 4.20 lakh crore has been credited to the accounts of numerous farmers to date. Additionally, he revealed that over Rs 18,000 crore was transferred to crores of farmers under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme on the day of the announcement. PM Modi also mentioned the allocation of land titles to families linked to Assam’s tea estates, extending his felicitations to the recipients and the broader farming community.
