Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to join the ‘Somnath Amrutparv-2026’ festivities on Monday at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district. The temple is commemorating 75 years since its reconstruction post-Independence, with a lineup of religious, cultural, and aerial events planned. PM Modi, also the head of the Shree Somnath Trust, will arrive at Somnath from Jamnagar by air and engage in a roadshow from the helipad to Veer Hamirji Gohil Circle in Veraval.
The Prime Minister’s agenda includes offering prayers at the temple, conducting the Kumbhabhishek ceremony, and raising the temple flag. Additionally, he will lay floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose post-Independence initiatives were instrumental in the temple’s restoration. As part of the celebrations, PM Modi will address a public gathering at Sadbhavana Ground and unveil a special commemorative postage stamp featuring the Somnath Temple, along with a Rs 75 coin marking the anniversary.
An exhibition showcasing the temple’s history and reconstruction journey is organized within the premises. Titled “from destruction to development,” the display uses LED screens, archival materials, and photographs to narrate the temple’s past, including references in the Shiv Mahapuran and details of various reconstruction efforts over time. The exhibition also highlights the contributions of historical figures like Veer Hamirji, Kanhaddev, Rajabhoj, and Bhimdev Solanki.
