Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, encouraged citizens to support local artisans and preserve India’s handloom heritage. He emphasized the cultural significance of handloom products, highlighting their role in representing regional identities and providing livelihoods. PM Modi urged people to back the government’s “Vocal for Local” initiative and promote handloom crafts.

With National Handloom Day approaching on August 7, the Prime Minister praised the skills and creativity of India’s weavers. He underlined the importance of handwoven fabrics in telling the stories of different regions and communities. PM Modi also mentioned the growth of Khadi, a fabric closely linked to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision, and called for support for local artisans during the festive season.

Discussing India’s musical heritage, PM Modi mentioned the diverse range of traditional musical instruments in the country. He highlighted the Chongpreng instrument from Tripura, made of bamboo with three strings, and praised musician Suraj Kumar Debbarma for reviving interest in traditional music. The Prime Minister urged people to share information about traditional musical instruments on social media to promote Indian music traditions.
