Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday greetings to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, wishing him good health and a long life. Rahul Gandhi, a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, turned 56 on Friday. He is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi’s early years were spent in New Delhi, where he studied at St. Columba’s School before moving to The Doon School in Dehradun. Following his father’s entry into active politics and subsequent prime ministership, security concerns led to homeschooling for Rahul and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. He pursued higher education in the United States at Harvard University and Rollins College in Florida.
After his academic pursuits, Rahul Gandhi began his professional career in London with the Monitor Group before establishing a technology outsourcing company in Mumbai. In 2004, he entered politics by contesting and winning the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, focusing on rural development, education, and social welfare. He later assumed various leadership roles within the Congress party.
Rahul Gandhi was appointed General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 2007, overseeing youth and student wings. He became Vice President of the Indian National Congress in 2013 and later served as the party’s President from 2017. During his tenure, he led the party through electoral contests and emerged as a key opposition voice against the NDA government. He resigned as Congress president in 2019 and officially became the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha in 2024.
