Vehicular movement in parts of Gangtok, Sikkim, has been restricted temporarily due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit. Sikkim Police has imposed traffic curbs, including closing a three-kilometre stretch of National Highway. This closure aims to ensure the smooth movement of the Prime Minister’s convoy.
Security measures have been heightened in Gangtok, with various agencies working together to regulate movement during the visit. Normal traffic flow will resume once security clearances are completed. Prime Minister Modi’s visit includes participating in Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood celebrations and unveiling development projects worth over Rs 4,000 crore.
During his visit, PM Modi will visit the Orchidarium in Gangtok, attend the statehood celebrations’ closing ceremony, and unveil various development projects. These projects span sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure, connectivity, and more. The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for several projects, inaugurate hospitals, educational institutions, and launch connectivity and environmental initiatives.
The visit signifies a significant event in Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee year and highlights the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development in the Northeast region.
