PMK president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has criticized officials and industry sectors for allegedly trying to sabotage the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to boost local youth employment in private companies. He cautioned that any actions against this promise would be a betrayal of social justice principles. Anbumani expressed concern over reports suggesting consultations on a new industrial policy in Tamil Nadu, where some officials and industry representatives are reportedly opposing measures to enhance job opportunities for the state’s youth.
Anbumani emphasized the importance of aligning industrial growth with local employment prospects, especially for educated youth seeking jobs in Tamil Nadu. He highlighted the election pledge of the ruling TDP government to incentivize private firms hiring a significant number of local youth. According to the proposal, companies employing at least 75% Tamil Nadu youth would qualify for a 2.5% GST subsidy and a 5% electricity charge subsidy. Anbumani urged the government to promptly fulfill this commitment, alleging a deliberate effort to obstruct the initiative even before its implementation.
The PMK leader alleged collusion between certain officials and investors to hinder the policy’s progress, contrary to the government’s pre-election assurances. He warned that such actions could deprive numerous qualified young individuals of job opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Stressing the need to prioritize local youth employment, Anbumani urged the administration to resist pressure from vested interests and design the industrial policy to safeguard the state’s workforce while attracting investments and fostering industrial development.
Anbumani reiterated the importance of balancing economic progress with social justice, insisting that the government uphold its electoral promise by promoting increased recruitment of Tamil Nadu youth in the private sector.
