Police conducted a search at Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra’s house in the Kamarhati area of North 24 Parganas district. The search was led by Barrackpore Police Commissionerate Deputy Commissioner (South) Dyutiman Bhattacharya. When the police arrived at Mitra’s house, they found it locked, and the MLA was not present. They broke open the lock, conducted the search for about an hour, and then left after locking the house again.
It was revealed that Mitra’s house is named ‘Uday Villa’. The property also houses a party office for the Trinamool Congress MLA from the Kamarhati Assembly constituency. The police are investigating how a structure was built on land reportedly owned by a central agency. A significant police contingent entered the premises around 1 p.m., and documents were seized during the search operation.
Sources indicate that Mitra occasionally stays at the house, but ownership details remain unclear. Following the search, some documents were confiscated by the police. Mitra is reported to be at his residence in south Kolkata, with the Trinamool Congress scheduled to convene a meeting at Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence later in the day. Political observers are monitoring the attendance of Trinamool Congress MLAs at the meeting, with indications that Mitra will be present.
In the wake of the state government change, authorities have intensified efforts to address illegal constructions in and around Kolkata that proliferated during the Trinamool Congress administration. Many of these constructions allegedly had ties to Trinamool Congress leaders, promoters, or real estate developers under influential party figures’ patronage. Demolition drives have been initiated in various areas to remove such illegal structures.
