In response to the killing of a local policeman in J&K’s Anantnag district, police have detained about 3,500 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) across Kashmir within the last 24 hours. This crackdown is part of heightened security operations to root out the terror support network in the region. Searches and raids are ongoing at various locations to identify and dismantle these networks.

Additionally, authorities have demolished two houses belonging to active Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Anantnag district following the recent attack. The slain head constable, Ashiq Hussain Quraishi, was on duty in Anantnag when the attack took place. He was a member of the 3rd Battalion of Armed Police and hailed from Beerwah in Budgam district.

Expressing condemnation, J&K L-G Manoj Sinha and former CM Omar Abdullah denounced the terror attack. The L-G assured that the perpetrators would face justice for the killing of the policeman. A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted in Anantnag to honor the deceased, with a large turnout at his funeral in his hometown.

The Resistance Front (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the attack. TRF, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, emerged post the 2019 abrogation of J&K’s special status. Despite projecting a secular image, TRF has been linked to targeted killings of individuals from religious minority groups. The group, with a notable social media presence, has been associated with Pakistan by Indian media.
