Police in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, have requested custody of three suspects following the recovery of significant cash amounts in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Ram Temple donation theft case.
The authorities aim to gather essential details about the accused’s bank accounts and track the financial transactions associated with the recovered money. It is suspected that some of the allegedly stolen funds might have been used for purchasing various items.
Cash totaling Rs 14,25,000 was found with Lavkush Mishra, Rs 16,82,046 with Anukalp Mishra, and Rs 18,07,063 with Karunesh Pandey. Investigators plan to analyze the bank records to ascertain the source of the funds and their potential link to the reported theft.
During the custody remand, the police intend to question the suspects about the deposit of Rs 18 lakh into Karunesh Pandey’s wife’s bank account. Further recoveries are anticipated if the movement of the funds can be traced through the bank records.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted a preliminary report indicating systematic cash theft during the counting process, with six individuals identified for their involvement. The report also highlights supervisory and procedural lapses, leading to accountability for oversight failures among trust officials.
