In a successful operation, the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) team of Police Station Madhu Vihar in Delhi caught a habitual offender during midnight patrol and recovered a stolen motorcycle along with illegal narcotics. The incident occurred on the night of April 27 and 28, as reported by the East District Police. The ERV team, led by Constable Ankur and Constable Avinash, spotted a suspicious individual on a motorcycle with a hidden number plate during routine patrol near Utsav Ground in IP Extension.
The individual tried to escape upon seeing the police but was swiftly apprehended after a short pursuit. Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing the motorcycle for personal use and to avoid detection while committing further crimes. He also admitted to possessing and transporting ganja for personal consumption and limited distribution among local contacts. A case has been filed at Police Station Madhu Vihar under Sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act, with ongoing investigations.
The offender, identified as Charanjeet alias Charan, a 24-year-old resident of New Seelampur, Delhi, has a criminal record involving at least nine previous cases registered at Kamla Market Police Station in 2022, mainly under Sections 356 and 379 of the Indian Penal Code. The police recovered a black-red Honda Shine motorcycle with registration number DL5C-59, linked to an existing e-FIR, and confiscated 71.58 grams of ganja from his possession. The prompt action by the police not only led to the arrest of the accused but also averted potential future crimes.
