Police conducted a major raid on an alleged prostitution racket in the Bharatiya Nagar area of Saharsa district, detaining 18 individuals, including four minor girls. The operation, led by a joint team comprising the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Cyber Police Station, and Sadar Police Station, was initiated based on specific information received. The raid, supervised by Cyber DSP Kalyan Anand, took place around 11:30 am following verified confidential tips about illicit activities at the site.
Authorities discovered objectionable materials and suspicious tablets during the search, which are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Among those detained were 10 women, four minor girls, and four young men, while some suspects managed to escape before being apprehended. Efforts are underway to identify and take legal action against the absconding individuals, as confirmed by the police.
The area had been under police surveillance for a while, with a previous raid conducted at the same location a few days earlier resulting in the sealing of several premises. Cyber DSP Anand emphasized that strict legal measures will be enforced against the owners and operators if illegal activities resume at the sealed properties. All detained persons are currently undergoing identification, verification, and detailed questioning, with appropriate legal action to follow upon completion of the investigation.
The four minor girls have been placed under special care, and procedures in line with legal requirements for minors and potential trafficking victims are being followed. Individuals who managed to flee during the raid are being identified for legal action. Police have urged the public to report any information related to similar illegal activities, emphasizing the ongoing campaign against human trafficking and organized prostitution in Saharsa district.
