Police in Farah province, western Afghanistan, have detained two drug smugglers and confiscated 75 kilograms of narcotics, as confirmed by provincial police spokesman Mullah Kalimullah Nangyal. Acting on intelligence, security forces conducted a raid in Farah Rod district, leading to the apprehension of the suspects and the seizure of 75 kg of raw opium. An assault rifle was also found at the operation site, according to Xinhua News Agency.
This incident marks the second recent drug seizure in western Afghanistan. On February 1, the provincial police office announced the interception of 170 kg of illegal drugs from a vehicle in Herat province, resulting in the arrest of two alleged drug smugglers. Following intelligence inputs, the police stopped a car and discovered 170 kg of opium and hashish hidden in compartments. The two individuals in the vehicle were taken into custody for attempting to traffic the contraband.
The arrested individuals will undergo preliminary interrogation before being handed over to judicial authorities, as stated in the official announcement. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards drug production and trafficking, the police reiterated their commitment to preventing illegal drug activities in the province. Additionally, in a separate operation in eastern Khost province, 18 kg of hashish were seized, and an alleged drug trafficker was apprehended.
In a previous operation in Jawzjan province, Afghan police arrested eight individuals for alleged involvement in narcotics production and smuggling. Targeted police actions led to the detention of suspects and the confiscation of a substantial amount of illicit drugs, including hashish and heroin. These efforts are part of a broader initiative by Afghan authorities to combat the illegal drug trade across the country.
