Political fervor is on the rise in Tamil Nadu as preparations for the 2026 state assembly elections gain momentum. A significant National Democratic Alliance (NDA) public gathering, graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took place in Tiruchirappalli’s Panchpur area. Tamil Nadu BJP state president Nainar Nagendran expressed optimism that the event would catalyze a transformation in the state’s governance.
Nagendran emphasized the impact of Prime Minister Modi’s visits to Tamil Nadu, citing the infusion of development projects worth billions during each visit. He countered Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s assertions of neglect by highlighting the central government’s allocation of various schemes and funding to the state. The Rockfort area in Trichy was identified as pivotal in steering change and influencing state policies.
The rally, which attracted a massive turnout of NDA supporters, witnessed a BJP worker, Karthikeyan from Perambalur district, presenting Prime Minister Modi with a wooden idol of Lord Ram as a symbolic gesture. Karthikeyan praised the Prime Minister for championing the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, symbolizing the widespread acceptance of Lord Ram across Tamil Nadu. The event is seen as a strategic move by the NDA in the lead-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, with the alliance boasting a turnout of over 500,000 attendees.
Prime Minister Modi, in his address, targeted the DMK party and stressed the necessity of a collaborative ‘double-engine’ government in Tamil Nadu that aligns with the Centre to propel development initiatives.
