Following the announcement of Rajya Sabha elections for 37 seats nationwide, Bihar is witnessing increased political activity. AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman stated that his party intends to contest the Rajya Sabha election in Bihar. With five MLAs in the Bihar Assembly, AIMIM’s stance on alliances for the polls remains uncertain.
Iman emphasized that parties supporting AIMIM’s candidate should be committed to countering communal politics and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. He highlighted AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s efforts in championing the oppressed and opposing communalism across India. The upcoming vacancy of five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar has spurred significant political developments.
The NDA holds a significant majority in the Bihar Assembly, comprising various parties including BJP, JD(U), LJP, HAM, and RLM. While the NDA is poised to secure four out of the five vacant seats comfortably, the fifth seat’s outcome may hinge on Opposition unity and AIMIM’s position. Securing all five seats would require NDA’s support from 205 MLAs, with potential for a contest depending on AIMIM’s alignment.
In a scenario where the Grand Alliance garners backing from AIMIM’s five MLAs and one BSP MLA, it could secure one seat. However, if AIMIM and BSP choose to abstain, NDA is likely to sweep all five seats. The Rajya Sabha elections notification is set for February 26, with nomination filing until March 5, scrutiny on March 6, and withdrawal deadline on March 9. Voting is scheduled for March 16 from 9 am to 4 pm, followed by counting at 5 pm on the same day, concluding the election process by March 20.
