Political tensions escalated in Tamil Nadu as a faction of newly elected AIADMK legislators urged party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to review the party’s alliance approach and consider supporting the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the largest party in the recent Assembly elections.

The state witnessed uncertainty in government formation following a split mandate, with TVK securing 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly, falling short of a simple majority.

AIADMK sources revealed that some party MLAs and senior members are advocating for a shift away from the BJP alliance to back TVK, aiming to influence the next government formation significantly.

Former minister C.V. Shanmugam is reportedly leading the discussions within the party, suggesting that aligning with TVK could help AIADMK regain political significance and secure crucial ministerial roles in a potential coalition setup.
