Political tensions in Bihar have heightened as discussions continue regarding Nitish Kumar’s decision to join the Rajya Sabha. Bihar Rural Work Minister Ashok Choudhary responded to criticism from the opposition by stating that taking the oath in the Rajya Sabha is a standard constitutional procedure.
Choudhary emphasized that Nitish Kumar’s move to the Upper House is a personal and political choice, criticizing the opposition for unnecessary uproar over the matter. He directly criticized Tejashwi Yadav, labeling his comments as indicative of a narrow mindset.
Pointing out the lack of precedence in Tejashwi Yadav’s political lineage for voluntarily relinquishing the Chief Minister’s position to join the Rajya Sabha, Choudhary compared this to Nitish Kumar’s past actions in appointing Jitan Ram Manjhi as Chief Minister. He also mentioned leadership changes within the opposition camp during Rabri Devi’s tenure, highlighting different circumstances.
Choudhary targeted the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), alleging that despite strong election rhetoric, the party has faced repeated setbacks. He predicted a further decline for the RJD, suggesting it could face complete obliteration. Responding to Akhilesh Yadav’s remarks about Nitish Kumar’s potential as a Prime Ministerial candidate, Choudhary questioned the timing of such concerns.
Stressing that the electoral mandate in Bihar was secured under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Choudhary defended Kumar’s transition to the Rajya Sabha as a personal decision that should not be interfered with by outsiders. The exchange of sharp statements has escalated the political verbal sparring in Bihar, adding to the already tense relationship between the ruling coalition and the opposition.
