The political scenario in Maharashtra witnessed a significant shakeup with the execution of “Operation Tiger,” a covert defection plan that divided the Shiv Sena-UBT Parliamentary wing. Despite a directive to attend a crucial meeting, six MPs rebelled, aligning themselves with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction. The rebels, arriving discreetly in Delhi from various locations, strategically orchestrated their move to join forces.
The split within the Shiv Sena-UBT was formalized through meetings with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, where the rebel MPs presented a resolution citing ideological deviations within the party. The defection, which saw six out of nine Lok Sabha MPs switch sides, now gives the Shinde faction a dominant position within the Parliamentary Party. Meanwhile, the Uddhav Thackeray-led group is preparing to challenge the defection by seeking the disqualification of the rebel members.
To ensure the loyalty of the defected MPs, a late-night conference call was held between Deputy CM Eknath Shinde and the rebels, addressing concerns and solidifying support. Following this, the rebel MPs were discreetly relocated to Jaipur to avoid interference. The Shinde camp is proceeding cautiously, refraining from public announcements while assessing potential legal repercussions and opposition strategies.
