Poonch and Rajouri districts in Jammu and Kashmir are at risk of rain-related damage in the next 48 hours. Recent heavy rainfall has saturated the soil, reducing its ability to absorb more water. This situation increases the chances of landslides, mudslides, flash floods, and structural damage, especially in hilly areas and along vulnerable roadways.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the Western Disturbance expected in the next two days could bring more rainfall to these districts. Due to their location in the Pir Panjal range, Poonch and Rajouri are often the first areas in the region to be affected by such weather systems. With the ground already saturated and slopes weakened, even moderate to heavy showers could lead to new incidents.
Officials have advised residents to stay vigilant as Poonch and Rajouri are at a high risk of weather-related damage. The administration in Gurez has also asked tourists and local tent colony owners to vacate riverbanks due to rising water levels in the Kishanganga River. Recent cloudbursts in Bandipora district have caused damage to homes and agricultural land, raising concerns about flash floods and further destruction along riverbanks.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and deploying assessment teams to evaluate the extent of the damage.
