A power struggle has emerged in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) as former president Shwetha Menon disputes the legitimacy of the newly formed ad hoc committee. Menon insists that her executive committee remains in office until fresh elections are conducted. The conflict arose following AMMA’s Annual General Body meeting where Menon and her executive committee resigned amid opposition.
The AGM approved a nine-member ad hoc committee to oversee the organization until elections are held. The dispute escalated after the ad hoc committee’s meeting in Kochi. Shwetha Menon, in a social media statement, rejected the allegations, citing AMMA’s by-laws that allow the outgoing executive committee to function until a new one is elected.
Menon criticized the ad hoc committee, claiming it lacks legal standing and accused certain interests of misleading members. She revealed that a group at the AGM presented a resolution for her committee’s resignation, which she argues did not meet the required majority. The recent events have drawn comparisons to last year’s leadership transition after Mohanlal’s resignation.
Supporters of the ad hoc committee assert that the General Body’s unanimous approval legitimizes the interim arrangement. This has set the stage for a legal and organizational battle over AMMA’s control until fresh elections are held.
