The ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’ (PMSBY) by the Central government is proving to be a vital aid for underprivileged families in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 9, 2015, the scheme offers affordable accident insurance coverage, with beneficiaries in Neemuch district benefiting from financial assistance. Individuals aged 18 to 70 can secure accident insurance of up to Rs 2 lakh by paying a mere annual premium of Rs 20.
The scheme ensures Rs 2 lakh compensation for accidental death or permanent total disability, and Rs 1 lakh for partial permanent disability. To avail of these benefits, individuals need an active savings account with a bank or post office and must enroll through the respective branches. In a poignant example from Javi village, Neemuch district, Kanhaiyalal Patidar, who had enrolled in the scheme, tragically passed away in April 2025 after an accident at work.
Following Kanhaiyalal’s demise, his daughter, the nominee, received a Rs 2 lakh cheque under the insurance scheme, providing crucial financial support to the family. Kanhaiyalal was the sole breadwinner survived by his wife and two daughters, with the assistance proving invaluable during their time of need. Expressing gratitude, Kanhaiyalal’s elder daughter, Preeti Patidar, emphasized the significant relief the insurance support brought to their family during a challenging period.
Kanhaiyalal’s brother, Omprakash Patidar, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the scheme’s importance in providing relief to families in crisis situations. He emphasized the necessity for families to enroll in such insurance schemes, recognizing their critical role in times of adversity.
