The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Pramod Madushan as a replacement for Eshan Malinga in the Sri Lanka squad. Madushan, a medium-fast bowler with experience in 13 ODIs and eight T20Is, steps in for Malinga due to a shoulder injury sustained during a recent T20I against England. The approval from the Event Technical Committee is necessary for any player replacements in the squad.
Madushan, aged 24, has previously represented Sri Lanka in eight T20Is, claiming 12 wickets at an average of 8.63 runs per over. Despite playing against England in 2021, he was not part of the final 2020 ICC World Cup squad. Madushan’s last international T20I appearance was on 28 April 2023.
With Madushan joining the pace bowling attack alongside Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera, Sri Lanka is set to face Ireland at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 8. The Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming match includes players like Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, and the newly added Pramod Madushan.
