Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth emphasized the need for the Tamil Nadu government to promptly attend to the demands of protesting secondary grade teachers and sanitation workers. She highlighted that these issues were significant and warranted immediate action from the authorities. Premalatha urged for constructive dialogues with the protesters to find a fair and lasting resolution without delay.
Premalatha Vijayakanth also commented on the political landscape in anticipation of the 2026 Assembly elections, foreseeing unprecedented developments in Tamil Nadu’s political history. She expressed confidence in major political realignments and suggested the likelihood of a coalition government post-elections. The DMDK leader mentioned that the party’s electoral alliance decision would be finalized after its State conference on January 9.
Addressing queries about a potential meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his Tamil Nadu visit on January 4, Premalatha clarified that the DMDK had not received any such invitation. She underscored the party’s current focus on strengthening its organizational structure and gearing up for the upcoming State conference. Additionally, she raised concerns about the escalating drug problem in the state, urging intensified government efforts to combat drug trafficking and usage due to the serious threat it poses to the youth.
In a separate development, the DMDK announced a meeting of district secretaries on January 5 at the party headquarters in Koyambedu, Chennai. The gathering is expected to deliberate on organizational issues, preparations for the state conference, and the party’s political strategy leading up to the Assembly elections.
