President Droupadi Murmu is set to lead a yoga session at Jabalpur’s Garrison Ground on June 21, 2026, in celebration of International Yoga Day. This marks the first time an Indian President will participate in a yoga event at this renowned location, adding a significant chapter to its history.
The Garrison Ground, situated in the Sadar area, has a rich legacy dating back to the British colonial era. Initially a military cantonment, it was developed in 1953 and has since become a prominent sports venue in Jabalpur, hosting various competitions like cricket, football, hockey, and athletics.
Over the years, the Garrison Ground has not only been a hub for sporting events but has also hosted significant public gatherings, including rallies addressed by prominent figures like former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. President Murmu’s upcoming presence is expected to inspire yoga enthusiasts and emphasize the importance of yoga for overall well-being.
President Murmu’s itinerary also includes a visit to Kuno National Park in Sheopur district on June 22, following the yoga session. During her stay, she will inspect the cheetah enclosures, evaluate the care provided to the animals, and assess the progress of Project Cheetah.
