Stressing the importance of scientific thinking and empowering women, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the issue of drug abuse in Punjab during a convocation ceremony at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. She emphasized the pivotal role of educational institutions in combatting drug abuse and urged all stakeholders to guide the youth towards positive paths. President Murmu expressed concern over the significant impact of drug abuse on the health, social structure, economy, and morality of society, emphasizing the urgent need for a sustainable solution.
She underlined the crucial role of the upcoming two decades in shaping a developed India, emphasizing the responsibility of the youth to embody scientific reasoning, act responsibly, and serve selflessly. President Murmu called upon higher education institutions to instill these values in students and encouraged the youth to choose professions that contribute to national strength and uphold human values. Quoting Guru Nanak Dev Ji, she advocated for gender equality in society, praising Guru Nanak Dev University for promoting women’s empowerment through the dominance of female students in degree conferrals and medal awards.
President Murmu asserted that societal and national progress hinges on providing women with opportunities to advance confidently, urging collective efforts towards this goal. She reminded students that education is not just a career path but also a means to serve society and the nation, emphasizing the importance of repaying society’s investment in their education by uplifting marginalized individuals in the developmental journey.
