President Droupadi Murmu highlighted the significant impact skilled and socially conscious doctors can have on society while speaking at the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS in Rajkot, Gujarat. She commended AIIMS institutions nationwide for offering top-tier healthcare affordably and contributing to medical education, research, and public health initiatives. Stressing the importance of good governance and transparency, she urged policymakers to address regional health challenges alongside core objectives.
President Murmu underscored the multifaceted nature of the medical profession, emphasizing that it requires not only scientific knowledge but also qualities like sensitivity, patience, and humility. She praised the trust society places in doctors, symbolized by the white coat, during times of illness and uncertainty. Embracing technological advancements in healthcare, she encouraged graduating students to blend modern technologies with human empathy in their practice.
Linking healthcare to national development goals, President Murmu emphasized the role of public health in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. She acknowledged the government’s efforts to enhance healthcare access and called for collective action to strengthen these initiatives. Institutions like AIIMS, she noted, play a crucial role in setting new benchmarks in medical research and innovation to guide the country’s healthcare sector.
President Murmu is currently on a four-day visit to Gujarat and Maharashtra, with upcoming engagements including the ‘Samajik Samrasta Mahotsava’ in Gandhinagar and the convocation ceremony at Rashtriya Raksha University in the city.
