Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building of NAMO Airport in Daman, focusing on enhancing air connectivity for the Union Territory and supporting its tourism and economic growth. This inauguration was part of the Prime Minister’s visit to Daman, where he also launched various development projects totaling around Rs 2,970 crore in sectors like healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, and connectivity.
The newly opened airport terminal is set to improve access to Daman, which has traditionally relied on road connections to major cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The project aims to boost regional connectivity and make travel easier for residents, tourists, and businesses. The terminal features modern passenger amenities and aims to integrate the Union Territory into India’s expanding civil aviation network.
Officials highlighted that the terminal has a seating capacity for about 180 passengers at a time, marking a significant milestone in Daman’s infrastructure development. This initiative is crucial for Daman’s tourism sector expansion and aims to enhance accessibility for investors and visitors. The airport is expected to better connect Daman with key cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Delhi, as emphasized by the Prime Minister earlier.
PM Modi’s focus on improving transport infrastructure in smaller cities and Union Territories is evident through investments in roads, railways, ports, and aviation facilities. The new terminal is anticipated to streamline passenger movement, promote regional integration, and stimulate economic activities in the coastal Union Territory. Following the airport inauguration, PM Modi will engage in a public event in Daman, unveiling additional projects in healthcare, public welfare, tourism, and infrastructure development.
