Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, also the party’s Screening Committee chairperson and Member of Parliament from Wayanad, has arrived in Guwahati for a two-day visit focused on gearing up for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Upon landing at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, she proceeded to the Kamakhya Temple for prayers. Following the temple visit, she headed to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan for crucial meetings regarding the party’s candidate screening process.
Priyanka Gandhi is overseeing an extensive and systematic screening exercise in Assam, a first for the Congress in the state. The process involves detailed feedback from grassroots workers and district-level leaders, aiming to select candidates effectively and address local issues. The meetings at Rajiv Bhawan will concentrate on evaluating potential candidates, reviewing organizational readiness, and enhancing coordination between the state and All India Congress Committee leadership.
The emphasis is on ensuring viable candidates and tackling local concerns efficiently before the polls. Priyanka Gandhi is expected to make follow-up visits to Assam in the coming months to monitor progress, gather political feedback, and maintain close engagement between central and state leadership as the election campaign intensifies. The Congress aims to finalize the screening process promptly, with the first list of Assembly election candidates likely to be announced by the end of February.
State Congress leaders assert that the party is ahead of rivals in terms of organizational readiness and candidate selection as the political competition for the Assam Assembly gains momentum in the state.
