The Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) in Balochistan has been protesting for the 19th consecutive day in Quetta following an acid attack on Dr. Mah Noor Nasir at a local hospital. The association, during a recent meeting, decided to intensify the protest by keeping Out-Patient Departments (OPDs) in government hospitals closed until their demands are met.
The YDA has accused the government of negligence and insensitivity, demanding the immediate removal of the Secretary of Health Balochistan and the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital. They have also called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the acid attack on Dr. Mah Noor and the prompt implementation of the Doctors’ Security Act.
The protest camp at Civil Hospital in Quetta remains active, with plans for a Grand Doctors’ Conference on June 29 and a protest rally on June 30. Leaders of the association have vowed to sustain the protest until concrete actions are taken to ensure doctors’ security, hold the attackers accountable, and bring about significant reforms in the health sector.
Protests against the attack have garnered support from various quarters, including the ‘Aurat March’ women’s rights movement, which staged a demonstration outside the Islamabad Press Club. Human rights activists, political figures, and social organizations have joined in condemning the violence against women, emphasizing the need for better protection and justice for victims.
