Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has urged the Punjab government to conduct a fair investigation to uphold its credibility following a man’s killing in a police encounter in Gurdaspur district. Jakhar expressed concerns over the police’s account, stating that it has sparked doubts among the public regarding the government and police’s trustworthiness. He emphasized the need for an unbiased inquiry to restore the lost faith of the people in the government.
Jakhar highlighted that staged encounters are unacceptable in any civilized society and constitute a violation of human rights. Given Punjab’s history of fake encounters during dark times, he stressed the importance of a thorough investigation in such cases. While not assigning blame or authenticity to the encounter, Jakhar pointed out that the police narrative is being questioned by the public and the deceased’s family, underscoring the necessity for answers through an impartial probe.
The BJP leader underscored the significance of the judiciary in determining guilt and delivering justice, cautioning against police assuming both roles. He called for a time-bound and impartial inquiry into the encounter, suggesting the involvement of social activists to address concerns about police credibility and ensure transparency in the investigation process.
