The Punjab Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has given the green light to several crucial measures. These decisions aim to support students taking the re-conducted NEET exam, offer employment opportunities to youth, enhance public infrastructure, promote sustainable waste management, and clean energy initiatives. Notable approvals include free bus travel for NEET candidates and an attendant, recruitment of 1,013 lecturers and 156 Junior Engineers, and the initiation of wet waste-based compressed biogas projects in Patiala and Jalandhar.
The Cabinet’s decisions encompass various sectors such as student welfare, education, employment creation, infrastructure development, renewable energy, administrative reforms, and industrial progress. These steps underscore the government’s dedication to public welfare and economic advancement. To assist students and their attendants, state-run buses will provide complimentary transportation to and from exam centers in Punjab and Chandigarh on June 20, 21, and 22, requiring only the presentation of admit cards for access.
Furthermore, the Cabinet has sanctioned the filling of 1,013 vacant lecturer positions and granted a five-year age limit relaxation for candidates applying for these roles in the School Education Department. In a bid to bolster employment prospects for the youth and enhance educational standards in government schools, these initiatives are paramount. Additionally, the recruitment of 156 Junior Engineers in the Public Works Department, aimed at enhancing departmental efficiency through better planning and supervision, has been approved.
In a significant move towards sustainable waste management and renewable energy promotion, the Cabinet has given the nod to wet waste-based compressed biogas projects in Patiala and Jalandhar. These projects, awarded to HPCL Renewable and Green Energy Ltd, are set to process 100 TPD of wet waste each, addressing environmental concerns, improving sanitation, generating renewable energy, and fostering a circular economy. The Cabinet also endorsed an amendment to the Punjab Civil Services Rules, addressing seniority determination in cases where candidates share the same merit and birthdate.
