Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted the importance of enhancing trade relations with Canada, specifically British Columbia, to promote mutual benefits for businesses and citizens on both ends. He expressed gratitude for Canada’s historical partnership with India and Punjab, emphasizing the existing strong trade and investment connections and the desire to further solidify these ties. Punjab, known for its expertise in various sectors like agro-processing, textiles, engineering, IT services, and renewable energy, stands ready to collaborate with Canadian enterprises in areas of shared interest.

Mann underscored Punjab’s favorable business environment, citing the state’s proficiency in ease-of-doing business and the support provided through Invest Punjab, which offers a streamlined clearance system and comprehensive investor assistance. He noted the alignment of British Columbia’s strengths in sustainable farming, food security, and greenhouse technologies with Punjab’s agricultural modernization objectives, foreseeing promising prospects in precision farming and food processing. The Chief Minister also highlighted the potential for educational partnerships, particularly in research and vocational training, to drive significant positive changes.

Furthermore, Mann emphasized the crucial role of the Punjabi diaspora in Canada as a vital link for fostering commercial and cultural exchanges, with plans to enhance these connections through cultural and educational initiatives. He extended an invitation for Canada to participate as a partner country in the upcoming Progressive Punjab Investors Summit in 2026, aiming to facilitate enhanced trade and cultural interactions through specialized business delegations and roundtable conferences. Additionally, he welcomed the idea of leading Canadian universities establishing campuses in Mohali to further educational collaborations.

In response, the Premier of British Columbia expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Punjab, acknowledging the enduring bond between the people of Punjab and Punjabis residing in British Columbia. He affirmed the commitment to strengthening business relations with Punjab, with a focus on exploring opportunities for collaboration in skill development, energy, and various other sectors.
