Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann initiated a ‘Shukrana Yatra’ from Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib with deep religious devotion. This journey aims to express gratitude for the opportunity to implement the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act of 2026, which strengthens penalties for sacrilege cases.
Accompanied by Cabinet minister Harjot Singh Bains, CM Mann emphasized the significance of the ‘Shukrana Yatra’ from the birthplace of the Khalsa Panth. He highlighted the importance of thanking Guru Sahib for entrusting them with the crucial task of enforcing a stringent law to prevent sacrilege and prayed for peace and well-being in Punjab.
During his visit to Takht Sahib, CM Mann expressed his indebtedness to the divine for enabling him to serve humanity through the enactment of the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act. He underscored the Act’s role in curbing sacrilege incidents and ensuring that those responsible face severe consequences to deter such crimes in the future.
The Chief Minister condemned sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib as a malicious plot to disrupt Punjab’s harmony and unity. He affirmed that the new legislation guarantees strict punishment for offenders, aiming to prevent any recurrence of such despicable acts. CM Mann stressed the emotional and spiritual connection Sikhs have with Guru Granth Sahib, describing it as a paternal figure that must be safeguarded at all costs.
