Hours before presenting the AAP government’s final Budget in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann marked International Women’s Day by pledging to enhance women’s self-reliance. Mann expressed admiration for the contributions of women to Punjab’s reputation globally and emphasized the crucial role of women in the state’s progress. Finance Minister Harpal Cheema echoed this sentiment, highlighting the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment and inclusive growth as he prepared to present the Budget.
In a recent announcement, CM Mann disclosed plans for a scheme offering Rs 1,000 monthly to each woman, with provisions set to be included in the upcoming Budget. This initiative, benefiting around one crore women, aligns with the government’s commitments and aims to be implemented before the 2027 Assembly elections. Mann encouraged girls to actively engage in shaping Punjab’s future, emphasizing the necessity of women’s involvement in governance, economy, and politics for the state to excel.
During a state-level International Women’s Day event at Punjab Agricultural University, CM Mann highlighted the government’s efforts to eliminate barriers hindering women’s participation in key sectors. He cited initiatives such as merit-based recruitment leading to a significant number of government jobs being awarded to women, the removal of obstacles for women to join firefighting services, and the increased presence of women in high-ranking administrative roles. Mann urged young women to pursue political engagement, underscoring the importance of women in driving public policy and leadership for a more progressive Punjab.
