Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is overseeing the investigation into the murder of Harbarinder Singh. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has instructed Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ferozepur Range Snehdeep Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (Tarn Taran) Surendra Lamba to supervise the probe personally and ensure swift justice for the perpetrators.
Harbarinder Singh was fatally shot by two unidentified assailants during a wedding event at Sidhu Farm under Police Station Sarhali’s jurisdiction. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. Another individual at the scene was also injured in the crossfire and is currently receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.
In response to the incident, DGP Yadav took action by suspending Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patti Jagbir Singh and Station House Officer (SHO) Sarhali Gurvinder Singh due to inadequate preventive policing measures. The Punjab government remains resolute in upholding law and order in the state, as emphasized by the DGP.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba disclosed that initial investigations suggest no connection to threats or extortion. Instead, the focus is on potential personal enmity or revenge motives. The case is being meticulously examined from various angles using scientific and technical methods, with four teams assigned for CCTV analysis and another team, in conjunction with the FSL team, inspecting the crime scene.
The SSP assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted to ensure the perpetrators face severe consequences for their actions.
