This year, the Defence Services Welfare Department of Punjab continued its dedication to supporting families of martyred soldiers, ex-servicemen, widows, and disabled soldiers. Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat highlighted various initiatives aimed at enhancing welfare measures for the defence community. Notably, government jobs were offered to the next of kin of 10 martyred soldiers in 2025 under the Honour and Gratitude Policy.
In a gesture of recognition, family members of 65 soldiers martyred during Operation Vijay were honored on Kargil Day for their sacrifice and service to the nation. The government disbursed Rs 3.66 crore as ex gratia grants to families of martyred and disabled soldiers this year. Additionally, a budgetary provision of Rs 63.22 crore has been allocated for the welfare of families of martyred soldiers, gallantry awardees, and ex-servicemen in the current fiscal year.
Pensions for ex-servicemen and widows are being transparently disbursed through the SPARSH portal, with 15-day assistance camps organized to address pension-related issues. Furthermore, the government provided electric three-wheel scooters to 10 disabled soldiers to enhance their mobility and quality of life. Minister Bhagat reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of martyrs’ families and ex-servicemen, promising more welfare initiatives in the future.
