Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, has announced the commencement of Operation Prahaar – 2, a 72-hour initiative aimed at capturing wanted criminals. The operation, set to begin on Monday and conclude on Wednesday, will be overseen by senior officers for effective management. Operation Prahaar previously led to the arrest of 3,256 individuals within 72 hours, with 69 weapons seized from their possession.
During a media briefing, DGP Yadav disclosed that the recent “Gangstran Te Vaar” campaign resulted in the detention of 5,290 individuals, including gang members, and the recovery of 128 weapons following 17,603 raids across Punjab. Additionally, 2,973 individuals have faced preventive actions, while 344 proclaimed offenders have been apprehended. The police force emphasized that the operation targets only those individuals with criminal warrants.
To bolster law enforcement presence and response capabilities, the police have issued Standard Operating Procedure guidelines for operational readiness. Commissioners of Police have been instructed to personally oversee crime scenes for thorough investigations and resolution of serious offenses. Furthermore, district chiefs are conducting field visits in high-traffic and hotspot areas to build community trust.
DGP Yadav highlighted efforts to enhance police resources by reallocating personnel from non-core duties to reinforce high-tech checkpoints and city security measures. In response to reports of unregistered vehicles being used in criminal activities, intensified vehicle checks, including fines and confiscations, are being enforced, particularly focusing on motorcycles without proper registration.
