In Amritsar, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit made a significant breakthrough by apprehending a drug smuggler and confiscating approximately 9 kg of heroin. The operation, based on a tip-off, led to the recovery of a substantial amount of heroin, valued at crores of rupees in the global market.
This seizure marks a major blow to the cross-border narcotics smuggling network operating in the region. Preliminary investigations suggest that the arrested individual was in communication with a drug trafficker in Pakistan and was assigned to distribute the narcotics within Punjab by his handlers.
Authorities suspect the involvement of multiple individuals in this international-level smuggling network. A case has been filed under the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar, with ongoing efforts to uncover the entire network and identify the intended recipients of the seized drugs.
The Punjab Police is resolute in its fight against drug trafficking, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring the safety and drug-free status of Punjab. The authorities have vowed to pursue all those engaged in the narcotics trade without leniency.
