In the 53kg women’s category, Meenakshi of Punjab outperformed Paris Olympic silver medalist Guzman Lopez Yusneylis with a 6-0 victory, setting a strong start. Asian Wrestling Champion Chandermohan continued the momentum with an 18-0 technical superiority win in the 74kg men’s bout.
Maharashtra Kesari fought back in the heavyweight category as captain Robert Baran defeated Punjab skipper Dinesh Dhankhar 10-1, keeping the team in contention. However, Punjab regained control in the 76kg women’s match, with former world champion Priya Malik securing a dominant win over Diksha Malik.
The most intense battle occurred in the 86kg men’s category between Amit and Sandeep Maan, with Sandeep claiming a narrow 8-7 victory for Punjab. With this, Punjab Royals led 4-1 at the halfway mark, showcasing a mix of talent in the league.
Each league match includes nine bouts across various weight categories, featuring renowned wrestlers and emerging talents. The final league fixture is set for January 29, with Punjab Royals facing Delhi Dangal Warriors.
