Punjab’s Gurvindervir Singh, a 26-year-old sprinter, showed determination by winning the men’s 60m event at the National Indoor Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. Despite a race reduced to five athletes due to false starts, Singh clocked 6.60 seconds to secure the gold, surpassing the previous national indoor record of 6.67 seconds set in 2022.

Singh, representing Reliance, expressed satisfaction with his performance, aiming to continue his success in upcoming outdoor races. The men’s 60m dash witnessed unexpected disqualifications, including the favorite Animesh Kujur, due to false starts, adding suspense to the competition.

In the women’s category, Maharashtra’s Harita Bhandra claimed victory in the 60m dash with a time of 7.32 seconds. The championships also saw impressive performances in various other events, showcasing the talent and competitiveness of Indian athletes.
