Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, held discussions with various farm union representatives at the Parliament House. The unions expressed strong reservations about the India-US trade deal, particularly its potential impact on farmers’ livelihoods. They highlighted concerns regarding the entry of agricultural imports that could harm local producers, focusing on crops like corn, soybean, cotton, fruits, and nuts.

During the meeting, Gandhi reiterated his stance on the trade deal, emphasizing the risks posed by increased agricultural imports. The farm leaders emphasized the necessity of a nationwide movement to oppose the agreement and protect the interests of farmers and laborers. The discussion aimed to address the challenges faced by farmers and the need to safeguard their livelihoods in the wake of the trade deal.

Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for farmers’ rights, stating that he would not be deterred by legal actions or privilege motions. He reiterated his concerns about the trade deal’s potential negative impact on Indian farmers, accusing the government of compromising domestic agriculture for foreign interests. Gandhi emphasized the importance of standing up against any trade agreement that jeopardizes farmers’ well-being and the country’s food security.
