Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, highlighted the impact of LPG shortages on the hotel industry, attributing it to the West Asia crisis. He criticized the government for yielding to US directives on oil purchases, expressing concerns over potential worsening of the situation.
Gandhi emphasized the repercussions of the US-Israel and Iran conflict on global oil supply, particularly through the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He warned of escalating consequences for India, citing disruptions in oil and gas imports.
Addressing the issue of external interference in India’s oil agreements, Gandhi questioned the country’s autonomy in deciding its oil sources. He pointed out the implications of compromising national interests in such dealings, highlighting the need to safeguard India’s sovereignty.
