Raijor Dal leader and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi criticized the Congress for their seat-sharing discussions ahead of the Assam Assembly elections. Gogoi expressed his refusal to yield to the party, citing significant differences and a lack of respect in the negotiations.
Gogoi emphasized that he would not compromise with the Congress and questioned the sustainability of an alliance under such circumstances. Initially demanding 15 seats, Raijor Dal was offered only 13 by the Congress, with Gogoi stating that they could only comfortably contest four of them.
Pointing out the electoral strength of Raijor Dal in various constituencies, Gogoi claimed superiority over the Congress in Dhing and Naoboicha Assembly seats. He highlighted the party’s strong candidate presence in at least 24 constituencies in Upper Assam, accusing the Congress of ignoring this reality.
Expressing disappointment over minority representation, Gogoi mentioned that despite requesting five minority-dominated seats, Raijor Dal was allocated only one by the Congress. He stressed the importance of mutual respect, transparency, and political integrity in alliances, stating that unilateral decisions cannot sustain partnerships.
The criticism from Gogoi comes amidst ongoing discussions among opposition parties in Assam to form a united front against the BJP in the upcoming Assembly polls.
