A potentially disastrous rail accident was narrowly avoided in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district when the Up Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Janseva Express collided with a tractor-trolley loaded with wood near Rampur Halt. The quick thinking and prompt action of the train’s loco pilot, who applied emergency brakes upon spotting the obstruction, prevented any injuries to passengers.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tractor-trolley got stuck on the tracks while trying to cross the level crossing. The loco pilot of the Janseva Express noticed the obstacle from a distance and activated the emergency braking system, reducing the train’s speed before the collision.
The collision, although causing damage to the locomotive’s front-end components, did not harm any passengers or railway staff on board. Following the incident, the tractor driver abandoned the vehicle, leading to a temporary disruption in railway operations as officials worked to clear the damaged tractor-trolley from the tracks.
Railway services resumed after about 45 minutes once the track was deemed safe for travel. Initial investigations suggest possible negligence by the railway gateman at the crossing, who allegedly failed to promptly alert authorities about the stranded tractor-trolley, potentially preventing the collision.
