The Ministry of Railways revealed that nearly 89% of reserved railway tickets in India between June 2025 and June 2026 were booked online out of a total of 65.08 crore tickets. This surge in online bookings was attributed to improved digital services and a secure reservation system, as stated by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In a bid to enhance passenger experience, Indian Railways introduced the RailOne mobile app on July 1, 2025, consolidating major passenger services on a single platform.
Indian Railways’ RailOne app, available on Android and Apple app stores, allows passengers to book reserved, unreserved, and platform tickets, along with providing services like train enquiry, PNR status checks, RailMadad grievance redressal, and more. Since its launch, the app has been downloaded over 4.55 crore times, with a daily booking capacity of around 9.65 lakh tickets, including both reserved and unreserved categories.
The RailMadad platform, designed for integrated grievance redressal, has been instrumental in handling passenger assistance requests. During the fiscal year 2025-26, RailMadad addressed 6,94,368 assistance requests, garnering an impressive 89.49% positive feedback from passengers. To bolster the security of ticket bookings, especially during Tatkal reservations, the ministry has implemented various cyber security and anti-fraud measures.
To prevent misuse through fake or multiple accounts, Aadhaar authentication is now mandatory for online Tatkal bookings. Additionally, Aadhaar-based OTP verification has been introduced on selected trains to ensure fair ticket allocation. Indian Railways emphasized the robust cybersecurity measures safeguarding its reservation system, which includes multiple layers of security controls, firewalls, anti-bot technology, and DDoS mitigation infrastructure with a capacity of nearly 30 Gbps.
