Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reiterated the Indian Railways’ commitment to prioritizing a positive travel experience for the poor and middle class. He commended the significant decrease in railway accidents and the successful handling of record freight loading, which has enhanced the railways’ reputation nationwide. Vaishnaw also praised the efficient operation of special trains during festivals to meet the surge in travel demand.
Highlighting the importance of punctuality, the minister applauded railway zones maintaining over 85% punctuality despite operational challenges. He underscored the significance of clean and well-maintained railway stations as the public face of Indian Railways. Vaishnaw urged officials to focus on cleanliness and enhance passenger amenities at all stations to improve the overall passenger experience.
Vaishnaw emphasized the need for effective crowd management during peak periods, ensuring smooth passenger flow and boarding. He directed officials to prioritize funds for enhancing passenger convenience and accessibility. The minister also addressed issues such as pending land acquisition for railway projects, emphasizing the importance of resolving them promptly and sensitively.
Discussing the construction of rail underpasses, it was decided to prioritize their construction over foot overbridges for easier and more frequent public use. Pilot projects will be initiated across the country to build underpasses catering to pedestrians, cyclists, scooters, motorcycles, and even wider structures for tractors and other vehicles, tailored to urban and rural needs.
