Rajasthan has reached significant milestones in its power sector, solidifying its position in both traditional and clean energy, as per government officials. The state’s thermal power plants have achieved their highest operational efficiency levels, while also forming a crucial clean energy partnership with California. State Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar highlighted these accomplishments during a virtual event in Jaipur, emphasizing the state’s commitment to ensuring continuous and affordable electricity supply and embracing renewable energy technologies for the future.
The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) has set a remarkable record by running its thermal power stations at 94.6% of their total capacity, showcasing one of the highest utilization rates among thermal power utilities. Minister Nagar revealed that all 23 operational units collectively generated 7,171 MW of electricity in a single day, marking a historic achievement for the state-owned utility. The focus now is on sustaining this performance throughout the year and establishing new benchmarks in annual power generation.
In a significant move, the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC) and the California Energy Commission have signed a virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in renewable energy and grid management. This collaboration aims to facilitate the exchange of technology, policy expertise, and regulatory practices, particularly in areas like renewable energy integration, battery storage, and smart grids. The partnership will also concentrate on developing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and advanced battery storage technology to enhance renewable energy reliability.
The state government anticipates that this collaboration will bolster Rajasthan’s standing as a prominent renewable energy state in India, aligning with its rapid expansion in solar and wind power generation. By combining record-breaking thermal generation for immediate energy security and international partnerships for clean energy technologies, Rajasthan is strategically positioning itself to meet escalating power demands while advancing its green energy objectives.
