Jaipur, July 30 (IANS) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday chaired a high-level review meeting at Parliament House in New Delhi to assess the progress of the Greenfield Airport under construction at Shambhupura in Kota district.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, the Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Chairman and senior officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), and officials from the Rajasthan administration.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the current status of the project, including construction progress, environmental and technical clearances, and the implementation of various phases of the airport.
Officials informed the meeting that construction work on the Kota Greenfield Airport is progressing steadily. Around 80 per cent of the design development phase has been completed, and foundation work has already commenced.
Reviewing the project, Om Birla directed officials to ensure that scheduled flight operations from the Kota Greenfield Airport commence by December 2027. He instructed the executing agencies to complete all construction work by October 2027, allowing sufficient time for testing, certification, and operational preparations.
The Speaker emphasised that the project should be completed within the stipulated timeline without compromising on quality. He also directed officials to immediately resolve any administrative, technical, or regulatory issues that could delay construction, ensuring uninterrupted progress.
To ensure regular monitoring, Birla instructed Airports Authority of India officials to submit a comprehensive progress report every three months so that the project can be reviewed periodically and completed on schedule.
The Greenfield Airport is being developed at Shambhupura at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore.
Once operational, it is expected to significantly enhance air connectivity for the Kota-Bundi and Hadauti regions while providing a major boost to industrial growth, education, trade, investment, and tourism.
Rajiv Dutta, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, was also present during the review meeting.
